Beijing Olympic: Why 08:08:08?

Introduction: The 2008 Beijing Olympic is scheduled to be held from August 8 to August 24,2008 in the city of Beijing. The opening ceremony of the Olympics will begin at 08:08:08 pm CST. Approximately 10,500 athletes are expected to participate in 28 sports and 302 events. The competition will take place in 7 cities of China including Hong Kong and Qingdao.

A question that could be troubling your mind is; "Why have the Chinese chosen the date 08.08.08 to inaugurate this most important event?"

Ganesha tries to answer the question with the help of Chinese Numerology.

The Chinese believe that numbers are not just figures indicating quantity or just superstition but that they have a magical quality. They also assign yin and yang qualities to the numbers. Yin and Yang are the two opposing forces active in the universe. Yin signifies passivity and darkness whereas Yang signifies brightness, activity, and positive force. So, they generally prefer Yang qualities. The odd numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 represent Yang energy and the even numbers 2, 4, 6, and 8 represent Yin energy.

The 2008 Beijing Olympic is scheduled to be held from August 8, 2008 and the opening ceremony will begin at 08:08:08pm CST. Most of the Chinese people consider number 8 very auspicious eventhough it has Yin energy. Because , in Chinese Numerology numbers are associated with words that sound similar to them. In Cantonese, number 8 sounds like "fa" meaning "prosperous". In Chinese Numerology every number has a certain element as well. Number 8 has the Earth element which gives stability and enhances the determination to reach goals. The number 8 appears three times in the date 8-8-2008 and 888 sound the same as "thrice prosperous". It gives material possessions and suits well to business. So, the Chinese selected the best possible date of the year 2008 for the inauguration of the most important event "The Beijing Olympic 2008".
